Alexis Rhone Fancher

Alexis Rhone Fancher comes from Los Angeles, CA

How long have you been writing? I’ve been sending my work out for publication since Oct. of 2012. I’ve been writing for most of my life.

What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment as a writer? To have touched, moved and inspired people with my words.

What projects of yours have been recently published? I am the author of How I Lost My Virginity To Michael Cohen and other heart stab poems, (2014), State of Grace: The Joshua Elegies, (2015), and Enter Here, (June, 2017). My chapbook about my disastrous first marriage, Junkie Wife, will be published in 2018.

What are you currently working on and what inspired this work? I’m working on the follow up to my last poetry collection, Enter Here. The working title is No Exit. My continuing love affair with Los Angeles and with L.A. noir fuels these poems.

Where can we find your work? Google me. I’m published both in print and on line. And last year, I had a poem in Best American Poetry. So there’s that.

How do you react to rejections? I send out more work. Immediately.

How do you react when one of your submissions is accepted for publication? First I do the happy dance. Then I go back to work.

What is your best piece of advice on how to stay sane as a writer? There are sane writers?

What is your favorite book? It’s a toss up between Joan Didion’s Play It As It Lays, Edward P. Jones’ The Known World, John Fowles The Magus, Bel Canto by Ann Patchett, and anything by Dorianne Laux.

Who is your favorite author? Joan Didion (Fiction/essays). Ellen Bass (poetry). But that changes dependent on what I’m reading.

If you could have dinner with one fictional character, who would it be and why? Harry Lime in the film The Third Man. He’s just so deliciously evil!

What makes you laugh? The state of American politics.

What makes you cry? Easy access to assault weapons. A perfect 2 carat diamond. The huge missing left by my best friend’s death in 2014.

What is your preferred drink while you write? A large mug of freshly made, French roast coffee.

What is your favorite food? French caramels with sea salt.

Shakespeare or Bukowski? Impossible choice.
