How long have you been writing? Seven years.

What projects of yours have been recently published? Was You Ever in the Navy? – a short story in freeze frame fiction vol. iv. Circling the Drain – a poem in The Wolfian 7. Details on my website, nickborehamauthor.com.

What are you currently working on and what inspired this work? Three stand-alone crime novels, two nearly finished, the third just begun. The words “noir” and “psychological” come to mind.

How do you react to rejections? I expect them all the time.

How do you react when one of your submissions is accepted for publication? Pleased that someone enjoyed reading it.

What is your best piece of advice on how to stay sane as a writer? Don’t think―write.

What is your favorite book? The Republic, by Plato.

Who is your favorite author? Among poets, T.S. Eliot. Among fiction writers, Raymond Carver.

If you could have dinner with one fictional character, who would it be and why? Hamlet. I’d try to get him to calm down.

What makes you laugh? Politics.

What makes you cry? Politicians.

What is your preferred drink while you write? Tea.

What is your favorite food? Seafood.

Shakespeare or Bukowski? Shakespeare – the better craftsman.
