Matt Amott comes from Portland, Oregon.
How long have you been writing? Since trying to write poems to a girl in junior high.
What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment as a writer? Starting a small independent poetry press called Six Ft. Swells with some friends in 2006 and so far we have put out over a dozen books.
What projects of yours have been recently published? A book of my poems called “Get Well Soon” was put out by Epic Rites Press. And last Winter Six Ft. Swells Press published a book by Wolfgang Carstens called “Hell And High Water”.
What are you currently working on and what inspired this work? I love to travel and have crossed the country many times. This is inspiring a project of travel poems.
Where can we find your work? Many poems can be found on ezines and blogs and my books can be found on Amazon or at the Six Ft. Swells website at afterhourspoetry.com
How do you react to rejections? It just takes one person at the right place to like your poem, so keep on trucking’!!
How do you react when one of your submissions is accepted for publication? Thrilled! Even if it’s the smallest press or a website just getting started. I always feel appreciation towards someone who connects with a poem and feels that it is important enough to them that they want to spread the word.
What is your best piece of advice on how to stay sane as a writer? WRITE ON!!! Never stop writing or sending stuff out!! Like I said, it only takes one.
What is your favorite book? Count Of Monte Cristo
Who is your favorite author? Way too many to narrow down but near the top of the list are Ray Bradbury and Elmore Leonard.
What makes you laugh? I drive through a tunnel a few times a week and even at 44 years old, I still smile and chuckle a bit when someone honks their horn in the tunnel. There is even a bigger chuckle when a few people answer the first horn. It reminds me that there are still some sane folks out there who aren’t taking things so serious.
What makes you cry? sappy shit!
What is your preferred drink while you write? I try to write mostly at bars. I think inspiration just fills the air there. So I’m usually working on a whiskey/coke or a beer.
What is your favorite food? Sandwiches
Shakespeare or Bukowski? Sometimes it feels like they’re one in the same.
