Mark Blickley comes from New York City

How long have you been writing? 33 years.

What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment as a writer? The publication of my fiction collection, Sacred Misfits (Red Hen Press).

What projects of yours have been recently published? “Meconium Aspirations: A Play In Ten Breaths” (Great Weather For Media anthology, The Other Side of Violet). A text based art collaboration with photographer Amy Bassin, Weathered Reports: Trump Surrogate Quotes From the Underground (Moira Books, Chicago).

What are you currently working on and what inspired this work? A novel, Danger: Falling Rocks. It’s inspired by the extremely bizarre behavior I exhibited resulting from my father’s death when I was nine. One of the protagonists is a frog named Broc. I have  a portrait of Broc tattooed on my skin.

Where can we find your work? Online, in numerous print anthologies, Amazon, on my website, NYC’s 13th Street Repertory Theater.

How do you react to rejections? As a numbers game.  I publish quite a bit, but my rejections always outweigh my acceptances. The key is to continually market your work.

How do you react when one of your submissions is accepted for publication? I somersault in the nude.

What is your best piece of advice on how to stay sane as a writer? Write in as many different genres as you can.

What is your favorite book? The Complete Plays of Charles Ludlam.

Who is your favorite author? John Steinbeck.

If you could have dinner with one fictional character, who would it be and why? Bob Cratchit from A Christmas Carol. I want to know what meds he takes to stay so goddamned happy and upbeat despite a life of intense deprivation.

What makes you laugh? W.C. Fields films.

What makes you cry? 22 daily Veteran suicides.

What is your preferred drink while you write? Earl Grey tea. But I truly love to drink in instrumental music.

What is your favorite food? Pizza.

Shakespeare or Bukowski? Bukowski for poetry; Shakespeare for drama.
